The Thiérache, the area around Waulsort, is a pure delight for anyone who loves vast forests and unspoilt nature. On longer walks and bike rides the foothills of the Ardennes offer a magnificent viewt. In this region you will also find original museums and a real steam railway, which runs between Treignes and Mariembourg the entire summer season . In winter there are cross-country ski trails and slopes. Hastière, famous for its location on the Meuse and only 6 km from the French border and nearby Dinant, is not far from the Park. A tourist highlight, Hastière offers some wonderful attractions, such as caves and a sailing club. The best known and most spectacular activity is of course the famous trip down the Lesse River in a kayak or boat. The impressive Meuse valley is flanked by rocky lots (Freyr), palaces and magnificent slopes. Throughout the year, numerous activities are held in the 'valleys of the living water'. Some examples: Carnival in Olloy and Vierves; flea markets in Olloy; Doissche en Petigny on Ascension Day; Soap Box Derby in Nismes, at the end of June or early July; the migrations of Entre-Sambre et Meuse; the day of the open door of the museums and steam train festival in Treignes in September and the Christmas markets from the beginning of December. Moreover, there are specific activities for the younger guests: Espace Arthur Masson (animation for children in a former school), steam from the three valleys between Mariembourg and Treignes or the train of Nismes. But the playground and animal park with small donkeys and goats are the curiosity for the youngest children. Hideout play, hiking and construction - all for fun in the forest.
