Extremadura has many attractions which can be accessed from Aldeanueva de la Vera. It is a wooded area with lots of chestnut and oak forests and there are several springs where you can swim. The landscape of cork and oak unfolds in the springtime and then displays a palette of hundreds of flowers. Many vultures and storks glide through the air. Only 4 km from Nueva Aldea de la Vera is the monastery of San Yuste, within walking distance of the imperial route. The monastery of San Yuste is like an eagle's nest built high up in the mountains. It is a striking combination of imperial palace and monastery. It dates from the year 1405, but was expanded in 1557 by Emperor Carlos V who found this the most beautiful place in the world. Even cities like Caceres and Badajoz are worth a visit. At the Plaza Mayor in Caceres, in the old center, if you go upstairs you will find yourself in the old walled part of the city, surrounded by stately buildings and romantic streets. Of pre-eminence in this ancient Roman city is the Plaza de Santa María. Here you will find a 13th century cathedral. Beside the cathedral is the Palacio Carvajal. This building has a round tower and was built in the 12th century. The city of Badajoz is characterized by Puerta de Palmas - a remnant of the ancient city wall dating from 1551. The Alta Plaza and the cathedral in Badajoz are beautiful sights. For horse lovers, there is a riding academy just 10 km away.
