Pals is a small medieval village which has been restored to its former state. This picturesque vacation spot has an 8 km long, broad sandy beach, as well as various restaurants, attractive cafes, a number of dance clubs, beach shops and two large supermarkets. Pals is a relatively quiet resort where you can safely let your children go out in the evening. To understand why this coast is called the Costa Brava (Wild Coast), you only need to walk south from the beach of Playa de Pals. As you walk, you will see the beginnings of a wild, rocky coastline with high cliffs and beautiful bays hiding some of the most picturesque little fishing villages. This part of the coast is approx. 30 km long and is certainly worth the effort to explore. The sea along this part of the coast is perfect for snorkeling and/or diving. In the vicinity of Pals you will find numerous (cultural) sights such as Peratallada and Begur. From the old fort you have a wonderful view of the coast with its numerous bays and little coves. At Empuries (Ampurias) you can see the remnants of an old Greek settlement. The city of Barcelona is only an hour and a half away and is certainly worth a visit if just to admire the splendid buildings of Gaudi and the busy Las Ramblas boulevard. The Dali Museum in Figueres is also an absolute must. For nature lovers there are excellent cycling and walking routes in the Pyrenees.
