The village 'Tsjummearum' with approx. 1500 inhabitants is located along the cycling trail from Sint Jabik to Franeker. The most important sources of income in this area are derived from agriculture and horticulture. Tzummarum was built after the Roman period on the shore of the Wadden Sea on a bank which was formed north of Westergo. This area was then called “Bjirmen” by the Friesians. It made up the parish of Barradeel till it was restructured in 1984. Today Tzummarum is situated along the “Hoge Hereweg” running from the shore of the Wadden Sea southwards (the park lies directly on the Wadden Sea). Enjoy the view, fauna and flora as well as the nice sea breeze. You can spend your vacation here enjoying the peace and quiet of nature or in a more active way as Friesland has a lot to offer: woods, water, culture, nice towns and picturesque villages. You can visit fascinating cities such as Leeuwarden, Sneek, Bolsward , Franeker or the seaport of Harlingen. There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy yourself at “Bungalow park Barradeel”: fishing in the Wadden sea or canoeing along a special route which passes eleven Dutch towns. Or what about a boat trip to the Wadden islands of Vlieland and Terschelling. Barradeel is the perfect starting point as it is only 9km away from Harlingen.
