The village of Valldemossa, with a population of almost 2,000, is famous for its great monastery of La Cartuja, which has beautiful passages and a museum. One famous long-time resident of the monastery was the composer Chopin. In his opinion this was the most beautiful monastery, situated in the most beautiful surroundings of the world. In Valldemossa there is also a magnificent church dating from the 13th century. Every Sunday there is a market where people sell local products. The capital of the island, Palma de Mallorca, is also worth a visit. The Plaza Mayor, with its many terraces is located in the center of the city. Other interesting sights in the capital include a cathedral and the La Seu Gothic Bellver castle. In addition to Mallorca there are many beautiful island beaches, bays, small ports and boulevards and, of course, the Sierra de Tramuntana, with a peak of 1445 meters. There are some bird sanctuaries and an aquatic nature park in the vicinity of Alcudia. In the immediate vicinity of Valldemossa you can find a golf course, a water amusement park, and diving or snorkeling courses.
