Local Information

The beautiful, uncrowded beaches of Nevis are less than fifteen minutes drive away, with all the heat and sun one expects of this perfect Caribbean island. Often in the afternoon and evenings there are wonderfully cool highland breezes.

There are miles of trails to run and to hike, with lots of interesting hills and scenery. If you want the ultimate natural full body work out then a trip to the top of the mountain will do the trick. It’s a total work out for your arms, legs and sense of adventure. Fantastic photo opportunities too.

If you would prefer to exercise in a gym using the latest equipment and the help of a trainer there is a wonderful new facility located four miles away, (a ten minute drive). Some other activities also include mountain biking, triathlons, windsurfing and SCUBA diving.

At The Hermitage hotel there is an excellent hard tennis court (with complimentary rackets and balls), trailriding on horseback (English style, escorted), carriage rides through historic Gingerland, nature walks and history hikes (the ancient "Heritage Highway" or "Upper Round Road" passes right through The Hermitage). For the child in everyone there is the farmyard with the plantation's pigs, sheep, ducks, peacocks, chickens and horses of all ages, shapes and sizes. Riding available as the owners of The Hermitage hotel have horses.

Directions

The easiest route is to fly direct to St. Kitts and then the ferry to Nevis which takes about 30 minutes or by light aircraft via the neighbouring islands. St Maarten, St. Kitts, Antigua and St. Croix are convenient transit points. Air charter can be arranged to meet flights at these airports.

American/American Eagle via San Juan/St. Kitts has several daily flights serving most cities in the USA. British Airways, Virgin, BWIA, American, Air Canada, Continental and Lufthansa fly directly to Antigua. US Airways & Continental serve nearby St. Maarten.

US Airways has direct service from Philadelphia to St. Kitts every Saturday. The service offers connections from Albany, Hartford, Boston, Baltimore, Burlington, Buffalo, Washington DC, Norfolk, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Montreal and Toronto.
