Local Information
The drive to Kalamakia is only a few minutes from the villa, and the Village of Steni Vala about 10 minutes drive. Steni Vala is the most picturesque fishing village on the island and a must-see for most visitors to Alonissos. The tavernas specialise in local seafood dishes and the tavernas hang on the edge of the turquoise blue water. Water taxis run regularly from this small port to many nearby beaches including one of the islands best, Agios Dimitrios. There is also a small beach at Steni Vala and a mini-market for most essentials. The drive to the main port town of Patitiri is about 30 minutes from the villa.

Sport & Leisure
Leisure Facilities:
• Barbeque
• Garden
Marianthi is set at the far end of Babakies Beach and is reached from the costal road by a narrow path through an olive grove. There is no parking adjacent to the house, and cars would have to be parked on the road. If arriving at night, a torch is a very good idea, as the path from the road to the house is not lit and is coastal! The villa is very private and stands just above the beach with no close neighbours. The best feature of Marianthi are the outdoor spaces, the great verandas with the sea and beach so close at hand. The uninterrupted 180 degree views of coastline, the village of Kalamakia and across the sea to the island of Peristera are stunning.
Directions
The Sporades Islands can be reached from the UK, most major European cities and the US in several different ways depending on which Greek airport is best serviced by your departure point. Below, we have listed the ways and means to reach Alonissos from each of the four airports which have convenient and direct services to these islands:
Skiathos
The easiest way to get to Alonissos is by charter flight directly to Skiathos. Many European countries have charter flights directly to Skiathos airport with a limited number of “Flight only” seats. Charter flights can usually only be booked for one, two or three full weeks (i.e. Friday-Friday). From Skiathos there are several ferry and hydrofoil crossings every day to Alonissos (approx 1 hour). Skiathos port is approximately five minutes from the airport.
Thessaloniki
It is also possible and convenient to travel via the second largest city in Greece, Thessaloniki. There is now direct airline service from Thessaloniki to Skiathos on Wed and Sat which takes 45 minutes and costs approx. 85 Euro one way (including taxes). This service starts the beginning of June 2006.
From Skiathos there are several ferry and hydrofoil crossings every day to Alonissos (approx 1 hour). From Skiathos there are several ferry and hydrofoil crossings every day to Alonissos (approx 1 hour). Skiathos port is approximately five minutes from the airport.
There is also a direct, return Flying Catamaran service from Thessaloniki to Alonissos daily (approx. 3 hours and approx. 35 Euro one way). This service usually runs from mid-June to mid-September. There is also conventional ferry service (6hrs 45 min/approx 30 Euros one way). We can assist with arranging a taxi transfer from the Thessaloniki airport to the port (approx 40 min/40 Euros).
Timetables need to be checked as times of ferry departures vary from season to season, and a useful web site for this information is www.gtpnet.gr
From some European countries you can also fly directly into the small airport of New Acheallos near the port city of Volos. By taxi from the airport, you may reach Volos port in approx 20 minutes. There are several crossings a day from Volos to Alonissos by hydrofoil and high speed ferry which take between 2-3 hours depending on the type of ferry and costs approx. 32 Euro one way.
Another possibility is to travel via Athens to Alonissos. From Athens there are 3 ways of getting to the islands:
1. Domestic flight with Olympic Airways to Skiathos (approx. 30 min/65 Euro) and hydrofoil from Skiathos to Alonissos (approx. 1 hr /15 Euro) http://www.olympic-airways.com
2. Bus from Athens Centre to Agios Konstantinos (approx. 2,15 hours/13 Euro) and then hydrofoil to Alonissos (approx 3,00hours/42 Euro).
3. Private transfer from Athens airport/city center - Ag. Konstantinos. You may choose between a taxi or mini-bus transfer depending on the size of your party. The pick-up can be from the airport or city center and takes you directly to the boat departure port of Agios Konstantinos (taxi: approx. 2 hours/150 Euro for 4 people) (mini-bus: approx 2 hours/available for 10-17 persons). Another advantage to these private transfers is that your boat tickets can be pre-reserved to Alonissos (approx. 3 hours/42 Euro).
The prices above are approximate and per person for adults.
