The park is directly connected to the ‘Grenspark De Zoom – Kalmthoutseheide’ nature reserve and the ‘De Brabantse Wal’ nature reserve. ‘De Brabantse Wal’ is a unique landscape in the Netherlands: a link between the high sandy grounds and the lowland sea-clay area. It is very diverse, with a great variety of plants and animals as well as cultural-historical places of interest. The steep ridge criss-crosses from Ossendrecht along Hoogerheide, Woensdrecht and Bergen op Zoom to Halsteren and is about 23 km long and has a maximum height of 22 meters. It leads through the high and low parts of the countryside and offers great views. From the park you can begin various cycling and hiking tours. The park offers the opportunity to rent a bike and at the reception desk you can get information regarding various routes which allow you to explore the area. The Forestry Commission has provided Familyland with 2 ‘Wombats’- wheelchairs for disabled nature-lovers (at no extra cost). Here you will find the starting point of three passable walking routes (each of different length) within the ‘Grenspark’. At Oosterschelde (at a distance of about 15km) you can swim as well as sunbathe on either the sandy beach or the lawn. The ‘de Speelmanplaten’ aquatic recreation area is also close by. Here you can go surfing, sailing or rent a water scooter. The Zoommeer (10km) and the Veersemeer (65km) are well worth a trip, especially for swimmers and surfers. The North Sea beach at Walcheren is only about an hours drive away. Other attractions include: ‘Ballorig’ indoor playground in Roosendaal; Pirates Island in Antwerp; Arsenal in Vlissingen; ‘De Stok’ kart center in Roosendaal; the Antwerp zoo; and the ‘Planckendael’ animal park in Antwerp.
