Property Description
Termas da Azenha is a small village in Central-Portugal, located in a magnificent valley, approximately 12 km from the Atlantic coast. It was originally a spa with mineral water, with a history of hundreds of years. The natural water spring is still working and the buildings have been remained for the most part. The complex lies on the foot hills just outside the village Pedrogão do Pranto, it belongs for a part to the river valley of the Pranto, this is an arm of the river of Mondego, which is running into the Atlantic ocean at Figueira da Foz. This location on the border of two ecological systems (rice culture which is rich in water and wooded hill area) results in a rich and divers flora and fauna. There are more than 300 different kinds of birds and a very divers mix of trees to be found here. Not to speak of the vast range of fish, crawfish, prawn, frogs, foxes, rabbits, hares and bats.

This region is ideal for hiking, bicycling and horse-riding. It is also very attractive for a sea side holiday because of places as Figueira da Foz and the quiet beaches of Lavos and Leirosa. If you are looking for a rest, beautiful nature and clean beaches this is the place to be. The mineral springs at the complex are, of course, an extra attraction to the visitor. There are plenty of possibilities this region has to offer not only to people interested in culture. The old university town Coimbra is at a distance of less than 40 km. Excavations of the former Roman fortress can be seen at less than 25 kilometre. This is also true for the place of pilgrimage Fatima, the monastery of Batalha, the former hunting lodge in Buçaco with its marvellous park and the health resorts Curia and Luso with their partly reminiscing about the good old times of the Bel Epoque. You can get there by car in less than one hour.
