International flight to the Juan Santamaria airport in the capital San Jose or to the new international airport at Liberia. If renting a car from San Jose the journey takes four to six hours or from Liberia the drive takes about 45 minutes. There are also private vans, cars or taxis which can be arranged from San Jose and will cost around US$150 – US$200. The other option is to fly from San Jose to Tamarindo in a light plane and the flight time is about 45 minutes. The airstrip is then only about ten minutes drive away. These flights can be arranged through one of the two local airlines.
