San Gimignano is located on a hill (334m) which dominated the valley of the Elsa. The medieval atmosphere of this beautiful town is easily recognised is every corner of the city, in buildings, squares and the towers. San Gimignano is well known as "the city of the beautiful tower". Of the original 72 towers there are still 14 intact. The farm building of the complex was first build in the second half of the 15th century, at the moment that they decided to extend the city wall, so it would enclose the church and the monastery of St Agostinus as well. These became very important for the Sangimignanian community. As guest of the complex you can arrange a visit to the wine-house and the farm of Cusona, which are famous for Chianti's wine produktion. These traditional vineyards are about 6km away from San Gimignano.
