Within a few kilometers’ distance from the farm lie charming little villages: Bensafrim and Barão de São João. At Barão de São João, just a short walk from Quinta da Água, there is a small, well maintained zoo. At app. 5 km from our farm there is a large water reservoir surrounded by eucalyptuses. You can swim, walk or go canoeing there. At app. 6 km lies Lagos, one of the most beautiful towns of the Algarve, where various monuments bring back memories of the bygone times. The town centre has many narrow streets with small shops and outdoor cafes. Lagos is built at the seaside and has different beautiful beaches to offer to the beach lovers: from small sheltered bays to an extended, wide sand beach. Along the coast and just a bit into the inland there are various places worth to have a look at. A couple of examples: Sagres, Europe’s farthest Western point; Silves, the former capital of the Moor kingdom, the remnants of which are still visible; Loulé with its Moorish market; and don’t forget: the Serra de Monchique, with its landscape so different from the coast. You can endlessly enjoy walking there. Along the West coast: from Sagres to Odeceize there is a vast nature reserve with extended dunes. There you will find various beaches, hardly discovered by tourists. The Atlantic is rough there and the beaches are surrounded by splendid rock structures. A paradise for surfers!
