Local Information
Panayotis is located high on the edge of the wonderful village of Volissos. This is a traditional village were local life is relaxed and easy going. The main square, which is in the lower part of the village is about a 10 minute walk from the property, through a series of narrow, sometimes steep, cobbled lanes. There is a taverna that opens at 4am for the early morning fishermen and closes when the last person leaves. There is an internet café, bank, butcher, baker, post office, pharmacy, two grocery stores and a number of restaurants. The new harbour area, which is about 2kms from Volissos offers a chic alternative where there are a number of very good restaurants and bars spilling onto the harbour front. This island is excellent for cycling, walking, birdwatching, relaxing, and numerous wonderful beaches. The extraordinary village of Anavatos built into the side of the mountain is definitely worth a visit, along with other fascinating historic places of interest and the unique medieval mastic villages in the South. Approximately 1.5 hrs drive away is Chios town, with its busy harbour and lively nightlife. It is not unusual around Volissos to see the local people walking with their donkeys, harvesting their crops and it is common to be flagged down by an elderly person to give them a lift!!
Directions
There is an airport on Chios, but it is not possible to fly direct from the UK. Olympic Airways fly to Chios, via Athens with a connection and change of aircraft in Athens to Chios. Numerous other scheduled carriers also fly into Athens, as do charter airlines. Connecting domestic flights can then be taken to Chios.
There is also a new fast ferry service from Athens to Chios, taking four hours, rather than the ten hours previously.
Another route is to take a charter flight to the neighbouring island of Samos then the ferry.
Clients are given comprehensive directions and maps to the village of Volissos. You will be met in the village and shown to the property.
Timetables need to be checked as times of ferry departures vary from season to season however, listed below are the ferry details from Athens to Chios at the time of publication.

The telephone in Athens is +30 1 4115015 or Fax +30 1 4123797 (from 09:00 to 16:00). The telephone in Chios town is +30 271 23971 or + 30 271 25848. They are open from 09:00 to 13:00, and again in the evening, from 18:00 to 22:00.
F/B KENTERIS is a FAST FERRY. The journey with KENTERIS is 4½ hours from Piraeus to Chios! It leaves Piraeus port EVERY DAY except Wednesdays and Sundays at 17:30, arriving in Chios at 22:00, and from Chios to Piraeus EVERY DAY except Mondays and Thursdays, leaving as follows: Tuesday, Friday and Saturday at 10:30, Wednesdays at 19:00, and Sundays at 18:00.
Normal Ferries:
One of the other the ferries (THEOFILOS & MITILINI) leaves everyday at about 19:00 from the port of Athens- Piraeus to Chios. This ferry takes about 8 hours, and it arrives in Chios between 03:00 and 04:00 (early in the morning).

Class A (cabin for two people with toilet inside the cabin, and a window) about € 68 per person/one way
Class B (cabin for four people with toilet inside the cabin) from about € 33.40 to € 39.50 per person/one way depending on the boat.
Class C without a cabin, € 22.70 per person the aircraft type seat/one way.
The cost of a car is € 72.70 one way. The cost of 500 cc motorbike is € 14.40 one way
Please note that in B class cabins you might have to share with three other people, unless you book all four berths. They are separated into male and female cabins. If you do book all four berths you do not all have to be of the same sex. C class has aircraft type seats, plus sitting areas, and of course seating on the deck.
